What you get, and what stays on your device

Two switches decide what Glento can do for you, and they are independent: whether you are signed in, and whether you have Pro. Most confusion about the app comes from assuming they are the same switch.

The two switches

An account

You do not need one to use Glento. Without an account your tasks live in a database on your device and nowhere else. Signing in gives your data somewhere to go, which is what makes syncing and the AI features possible at all.

Pro

The paid subscription. It unlocks the heavier features, and it is bought through your app store, so you can hold Pro without ever creating a Glento account. That combination works, it is just not the one that gets you the most.

Every column below carries these two dots, filled when that switch is on.

If you are paying for Pro and staying signed out, you are leaving cloud sync and every AI feature on the table. Signing in costs nothing and changes nothing about what you paid.

Staying signed out is a choice we support, not a downgrade

Three of those four columns keep every task on your device. If you have never signed in and synced, we hold nothing of yours at all. You give up sync and the AI features, and you keep the whole matrix, unlimited tasks, every theme and your insights. That trade is yours to make, and the app will not nag you out of it.

The first seven days

Create an account and you get seven days of unlimited AI, without paying and without entering a card. There is no paywall in the way before that and no paywall when it ends: the app keeps working, it just goes back to the free feature set.

The trial covers everything Pro covers except cloud sync, which stays with the paid subscription. That is why the trial is not a way to try syncing, and why the integrations built on sync do not work during it either.

Why cloud sync is the line

Glento is local first. Your tasks are written to your device, and by default they stay there. Until you sign in and turn on sync, we hold no copy of them, so there is nothing on our side to lose.

If you sync and later sign out, or let Pro lapse, syncing stops but the copy we already hold does not disappear. It stays until you delete your account, which you can do from Settings in the app, and which removes it for good.

Syncing changes that by design. To put your tasks on your phone and your laptop at once, they have to exist on a server between the two. That is a real cost for us to run and a real change in where your data lives, so it is the thing Pro pays for and it is the thing you have to opt into by signing in.

Everything built on top of sync inherits the same line. The API, Zapier and the integrations that follow all read the synced copy of your tasks. No sync, no synced copy, nothing for them to read. That is the whole reason they are Pro features rather than an add-on we could hand to everyone.

The questions we actually get

Do I need an account to use Glento?

No. The matrix, unlimited tasks, themes, insights and basic widgets all work with no account and no internet connection.

I bought Pro but I am signed out. What am I missing?

Cloud sync and every AI feature. Recurring tasks and the full widgets already work, because they run on your device. Sign in with the same store account and the rest turns on.

I have an account but not Pro. What do I get?

Everything free, plus the weekly AI review at no cost, plus ten AI credits a month across quadrant suggestions and daily focus.

Why can I not use the API on the free plan?

Because it reads your tasks from the server, and your tasks are only on a server if you sync. Sync is Pro, so the API is Pro.
